Facebook Messenger Free Voice Calling Service in India

Facebook has finally started rolling-out its Messenger voice-calling feature to other nations, with the service now available in India. The company quietly updated the Messenger service over the weekend to bring the functionality, which was first introduced in the US and Canada

The voice calling service in India is available via Facebook Messenger for Android and iOS. The voice-calling service will let users call their Facebook contacts for free, using either mobile data or Wi-Fi, similar to other VoIP services.

Within the Facebook Messenger Android app, users can initiate a voice call by selecting a friend, tapping the menu option, and selecting the "Free Call" option. Within the iOS app, users can initiate a voice call by selecting a friend from their conversation list and tapping the three dots (or "i" icon if you have an older version) in the upper right hand corner, which reveals a "Call" option.

That said, users won't receive a normal phone call. Instead they'll receive a push notification on their screens with the caller's name. Also, users can only connect with a conversation partner who also has Facebook Messenger for Android installed on their phone.

Users cannot ring up a Facebook friend who is logged in through the website, and mobile or landline numbers cannot be dialled.

Earlier this month, Facebook finally introduced its Messenger app for the Windows Phone platform, specifically Windows Phone 8. The Facebook Messenger app for Windows 8 notably doesn't support a few features available for other platforms, such as voice messaging, and chat heads.

In late February, the company announced the closure of its Facebook Messenger service for Windows and Firefox platforms.

in January last year.

Your WhatsApp Chats are not so Secure on Android

If you use WhatsApp on an Android phone, you should be careful about what you talk about or share on the instant messaging app. Using a few scripts and a rogue app, anyone can peer into your chat logs and see what you talk about with your friends.
A Dutch security consultant has found that WhatsApp chat logs saved on the SD card of an Android phone can be read by other apps because of the way Android allows sharing of data between apps.

"The WhatsApp database is saved on the SD card which can be read by any Android application if the user allows it to access the SD card. And since majority of the people allows everything on their Android device, this is not much of a problem," Bas Bosschert wrote on his blog.

"What do we need to steal someone's WhatsApp database? First we need a place to store the database," Bosschert explained. "Next thing we need is an Android application which uploads the WhatsApp database to the website."

When an Android application is installed, whether from the Play store or through an APK file, which is an installer file for Android phones and can be downloaded from various sources, the app requests for permissions to use network and SD card etc.

To explain his hack, Bosschert set up a web server and then created an Android application that required several special permissions on a user's phone. But because Android OS allows applications to access various parts of the phone - this is why users can conveniently share almost everything through any app on Android phone - Bosschert's app had no difficulty gaining access to WhatsApp data.

Bosschert wrote that the code that allows his application to access WhatsApp data and then upload it to his web server can be added to a popular Android app by a rogue developer to fool users and steal WhatsApp chat logs.

The older versions of WhatsApp were so insecure that they didn't even encrypt their data stored on SD card. The data from older versions of whatsApp could be read by anyone once it was uploaded on the web server. Even the data from newer version of WhatsApp, which uses encryption, can be accessed with ease.

"The WhatsAppp database is a SQLite3 database which can be converted to Excel for easier access. Lately WhatsApp is using encryption to encrypt the database, so it can no longer be opened by SQLite. But we can simply decrypt this database using a simple python script. This script converts the crypted database to a plain SQLite3 database," wrote Bosschert. "We can conclude that every application can read the WhatsApp database and it is also possible to read the chats from the encrypted databases."

Bosschert joked, "Facebook didn't need to buy WhatsApp to read your chats."
The security issue apparently doesn't exist on iPhones or Windows Phone devices because on these smartphones, apps have limited access to storage and other phone hardware. The more flexible access to phone hardware allows Android apps to talk to each other and helps a user quickly share content between apps. This is very convenient compared to what is possible on iPhone or Windows Phone, where it is difficult to share content between apps. But it also exposes data to rogue apps.

Google says that it keeps an eye on apps inside its Play store and removes apps if they pose any security risks. But this doesn't negate the fact that theoretically it is possible for a rogue app to do more damage on Android because of the open nature of the OS compared to iOS, which uses silos. Google also advises people against installing apps that don't come through Play store. By default Android phones are set to not install apps downloaded outside the Play store.

How to Transfer the WhatsApp Chats to New Devices

The popular WhatsApp messenger may be as convenient as the popular, there's always a catch: You can't really use the app on more than one device at a time. This is quite annoying when you have multiple smartphones or you pick up the latest and the greatest device. But I will tell you that you could easily transfer over your chat history to a new device.
Luckily, I found a little trick on how I could transfer my entire chat history onto my new phone and seamlessly chat. If you also want to save your chats and continue as normal on a different device, simply proceed as follows:

1.Create a backup of your chat history on your old phone. To do this you open the settings menu of WhatsApp, tap on "Chat Settings" and then tap "backup chat history".
2.Connect your smartphone via USB cable to the PC and navigate in the internal memory of the device to the folder "WhatsApp / Databases". Here are all the backup files saved with the date (eg msgstore-2013-05-29.db.crypt). Copy the file with the latest date on your PC, such as on the desktop.
3.Install WhatsApp on your new device. Important: Do not start the app!
4.Connects your new device via USB to the PC. If you've downloaded WhatApp onto your new device, a folder "WhatsApp / Databases" should be already there. If not, you can manually create it. Then you copy over the backup file msgstore-YYYY-MM-TT.db.crypt into this folder.
Then start your WhatsApp on your new phone and verify your phone number. You should now get a notification that a message backup was found. Just click on "Restore" tap, done.

After a few seconds, all messages are returned. Then you still have to enter a name and possibly set a profile picture, and already you have all the old chats on your new smartphone and you can continue exactly where you stopped before.

Secure Your Android Phone (Tools)

Your Android smartphone, more often than not, carries a lot of personal data, including e-mails,passwords,photos and videos,message,contacts- and even sensitive office documents. It is therefore important that you keep your handset from prying eyes. Equally cruial is a contigency plan, just in case it falls into wrong hands..
USE GOOGLE
Did you know that Android version 2.2 and later- comes with a feature that lets track and manage your mobile device?
Look for Google settings among all the apps on your handset. It is denoted by a grey icon with a lower case 'g' and a gear symbol. Tap on the app,and choose the last option which reads'Android Device Manager'.
From here, you can activate features that will locate your device in case it is lost or misplaced, and you can also remotely lock and factory reset your handset.
After you've checked these options on your phone, you can log in to the Android Device Manager website (www.google.com/android/devicemanager) using your Google account to control your phone remotely.
PROTECT  YOUR HANDSET..
An protected smartphone could prove to be a soft target for hackers. To gaurd against malicious apps and OS breaches, we suggest AntiVirus & Security Free by AVG Mobile, Mobile Security &Antivirus by Avast Software, or Norton Security antivirus. In most cases, the versions get the job done.
Note:Always choose and run only one antivirus software on your handset.
SNAP THE INTRUDER..
If you want a tool that will help you identify the person who has stolen your smartphone, install Lockwatch Anti-Theft  by Bloketech. This app uses the front camera to click a photo of the thief who has attempted to unlock your phone with the wrong code. It then e-mails the picture to along with GPS location, making it easy for law enforcers to track and identify the thief.
The best part is that Lockwatch works silently in the background, so a person trying to gain acess to your device doesn't even know he's been photographed.
TRACK YOUR DEVICE..
With Prey Anti Theft installed on your phone, you can track its geographical location as well as control the phone remotely. If there is no internet connection, you can send an SMS command to the device to receive its geo-location details. You can remotely lock the handset, unlock it; display a message to the thief on its screen, sound an alarm, take a picture of crook, and even wipe the data from the phone.
Dos & Don'ts
»Do not download attachments on your phone from e-mails sent by unknown contacts.
»Before installing an app, take a look at the permissions it seeks. For example, an app that allows you to scribble notes should not ask permission to see your contacts.
»Install apps that have a good rating and a healthy number of downloads. (at least over 10,000)
»Use a PIN/Password on your lockscreen.
»Don't connet an app to your Google, Facebook and Twitter acounts, unless you have very good reasons to do so. Just because an app ask you for your account details, doesn't mean you should comply.
